Oil Painting on Canvas | Ages 9–14 Duration: 3 hours 📍 Monet Campus – 753 Centre Road, Bentleigh East All materials and art smocks are provided. 🎨 FOR KIDS Imagine Paris on a quiet, cloudy afternoon. The air is cool, the river reflects pale light, and the Eiffel Tower rises through the soft grey-blue sky. People cross the bridge below while the city seems to slow down for a moment. In this workshop, you’ll create your own atmospheric Paris scene using oil paint on canvas. Rather than relying on lots of bright colours, you’ll explore how a limited palette can still create depth, light and emotion. Soft blues, cool greys and carefully placed warm touches will help bring the city to life. You’ll learn how artists use tone, contrast and brushwork to make a painting feel calm, distant and full of atmosphere. Your finished piece can be thoughtful, dramatic or peaceful, depending on the mood you choose to create. Sometimes, using fewer colours gives an artist even more to say. 👨‍👩‍👧 FOR PARENTS This workshop introduces students to monochrome and limited-palette painting through a subject that feels both recognisable and inspiring. By working with one main colour family and a small number of supporting tones, students learn to notice value, contrast, light and depth more carefully. For ages 9–14, this is an important step beyond simply choosing attractive colours. It encourages patience, stronger observation and more confident decision-making. Students begin to understand that a successful painting depends not on how many colours are used, but on how thoughtfully they are arranged. Oil paint also gives young artists time to blend, soften edges and build atmosphere gradually. Our professional artist-teachers will guide each student through the process while allowing room for personal interpretation and independent choices.
